Engraving Service:
Here at The Online Pen Company, we use state-of-the-art engraving technology to personalise your pen. An engraved pen makes the perfect gift for any occasion, including birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, weddings, christenings and graduation. They also make very popular corporate gifts. We do this for just £6.95.
Delivery details:
Engraving orders received before 12noon are normally dispatched the same
day (during busy periods there may be a maximum delay of 24 hours).
Important points:
1. No more than 16 characters, including spaces. (If you have any special
requests such as extra characters then please write these in the ‘special
instructions’ box at checkout and we will try to carry them out).
This is because the space available on most pens is quite small and the
more characters used; the smaller the result. We recommend as few characters
as possible, particularly when choosing the script font.
2. UPPERCASE words (not initials) in the Script font are not recommended
as they can be hard to read – Roman and Futura fonts are more suitable
for uppercase words.
3. To add engraving to your pen: add the pen to your cart, click ‘click
here to engrave your pen’, write what you would like engraved into
the text box, select your font and click ‘save options’.
4. We will engrave EXACTLY what you write in the engraving box onto your
pen, so please ensure that you have used uppercase, lowercase and spaces
exactly as you require.
5. If you select the engraving option for a pen SET; this will include all
the pens in the set for one cost of £6.95.
Fonts:
We offer a choice of 3 different fonts (sorry we are not able to engrave
logos, but some special characters and symbols are available):
1. Roman
2. Futura
3. Script
Our pens vary in shape, size and material so the style and position of the
engraving will vary from pen to pen. Therefore, pens may be engraved on
either the cap or the barrel depending on the shape of the pen – we
use our expert judgment to find the most suitable location for your engraving.
Like all professional engravers, we engrave on the cap where possible so
that when the cap is placed on the end of the pen during writing the engraving
can be read from left to right. By engraving on the cap there is also less
interference with the grip while writing and the engraving is at its most
visible with either the cap on or off.
If you would like the engraving positioned for a left handed person, or
if you would specifically like the engraving on the barrel of your pen,
please explain this to us via the ‘special instructions’ box
at checkout and we will do our best to carry out your wishes.
Examples:
We use a diamond engraving machine to cut into the surface of the pen.
1.) Chrome plated, silver plated, gold plated and stainless steel
pens - will produce a very subtle engraving. Examples of pens include
Parker Sonnet stainless steel, Waterman Hemisphere stainless steel and Sheaffer
Prelude brushed steel.
2.) Coloured lacquered pens - produce a more obvious
engraving as cutting through the lacquer reveals the colour of the metal
underneath (either brass or chrome). Examples of pens include Parker Sonnet
lacque black, Parker IM matte black and Waterman Carene lacquer black.
N.B. Some of the shiny finish pens can be filled with silver or gold leaf
to match the silver/chrome or gold trim of the pen. Please note that this
cannot be done on matte finish pens. Therefore the colour of the engraved
words may sometimes differ from the colour trim of the pen.
3.) Plastic pens – the surface is cut into and then filled with either silver or gold leaf. Examples of pens engraved in this way are coloured Parker Vectors, coloured Parker Frontier ballpoint pens and Lamy Safari pens. Plastic pens with a stainless steel cap (e.g. Jotter/Frontier) will be engraved on the cap.
