Introducing the Lamy Pen Range
Innovation in Engineering
C. Josef Lamy set up his family business in 1930, aiming to create technically excellent and innovative writing instruments that didn't sacrifice practicality for design. From the start his products followed this distinctive Lamy pattern, and it soon became established as one of Germany's most respected brands. Its history covers iconic products, from the Lamy 27 fountain pen series, launched 1953, to the latest version of the Lamy 2000, and whenever a new design is launched, it's always individual, always contemporary and always innovative in its engineering. Lamy pens are influenced and designed by a range of expert designer contributors, such as Gerd A Muller and Wolfgang Fabian, to ensure freshness and originality. Today Lamy is the market leader in Germany and ranks among the German design brands recognised worldwide.
Form follows function
Lamy's principal design traits follow the 'form follows function' principle of design established by the modernist German design school Bauhaus. Intelligent design and a focus on comfort of use make Lamy pens a writer's dream: contemporary yet practical, their minimalist design is an expression of the form follows function credo. First comes technical excellence and innovation to create the ultimate functional pen; second comes beautiful design, with a shape that supports the pen's practicality. Features such as interchangeable grips on the Lamy Accent, nib grades you can change yourself on the Linea/ST fountain pens and a window to view the ink level on the Lamy AL-Star, Vista and Safari are all examples of the intense thought that goes into each and every Lamy product.
Stylistic expression
However, this doesn't mean Lamy products are lacklustre in appearance: the design of each product reflects its practical qualities in an attractive and minimalist way, leaving a highly functional device with streamlined and pure aesthetics. What's more, Lamy pens have a common identity and their reputation means that when you use a Lamy pen you are participating in the support of pioneering technical design. The Lamy spirit's ultra-slim good looks, or the retro image of the iconic Lamy 2000 all betray Lamy's commitment to streamlined styling, which has influenced Braun, Gaggenau and Olivetti products in the past.
Products:
Lamy 2000
![]() |
Designed by Bauhaus designer Gerd A Muller in 1966, the Lamy 2000 was launched to be a forward-thinking product in fibreglass resin and stainless steel. The design still exists as the flagship Lamy pen and is just as good as it ever was proof, if it was needed, of the technical engineering that goes into Lamy pens. Its hooded nib prevents the pen drying out and the brushed barrel gives it retro good looks as well as ensuring a lightweight feel - a technical masterpiece. |

Lamy Accent

The Accent combines the Lamy credo of form follows function with a twist - interchangeable barrels that mean you get a technically excellent pen without having to sacrifice your personal style. Designed for Lamy by German pioneers Phoenix Product Design, whose motto is logic, morality and magic, the pen has a faultless mechanism as well as truly functional elements, like its screw cap and rubberised grip section. |

Lamy Studio
![]() |
The stripped-back successor to the Lamy 2000, the Studio was developed by Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein whose innovative work spanned the worlds of architecture, furniture design, lighting and even timepieces. The very clean design has been stripped of nearly all extraneous features to leave only the slick pocket clip with its 90 degree twist outline. Change the nibs and grip sections according to personal taste. |

Lamy CP1

The cylindrical cp1, also designed by Gerd A Muller, won the Busse Long Life Design award, and is an innovative failsafe. A thinner pen, its unisex styling and selection of finishes - including the platinum guilloche etched design - make it a great-looking as well as long-lasting product. However, the spring loaded clip and ribbed grip show it's still rooted in the Lamy form follows function motto. |

Lamy Linea/ST
![]() |
Similar to the cp1, you'll find that the Linea/ST pens have a slim cylindrical design and are manufactured in quality materials with tactile finishes. Interchangeable nibs and ribbed grips stamp the Lamy common identity, while the herringbone or striped finishes give an element of personal choice to the streamlined design. |

Lamy Logo

Lamy collaborator Wolfgang Fabian has worked on many designs with Lamy, one of which is the Logo. A dedicated formal and technical designer, he has created a simple brushed stainless steel product with a ribbed grip section to provide comfort and ease of use - an exemplar of the Lamy brand in function and form. |

Lamy Pico

Lamy's Pocket ballpoint pen, the Pico, was designed to fit in a pocket or bag by internationally renowned Franco Clivio. The bullet-shaped pen has a retractable nib and a clever protrusion to stop it rolling off the desk. Available in a range of finishes, the pen won a Red Dot design award for product design in 2006. |

Lamy Spirit

Another Wolfgang Fabian design, this ultra-slim ballpoint is made from a single stamping of steel. Its ridged design guarantees a great feel and non-slip surface so you, once again, won't be disappointed with the Lamy's functionality. |

Lamy Swift
![]() |
The intelligent engineering that Fabian put into his rollerball design for Lamy, the Swift, makes this product a writer's dream. The cap on/cap off function of a normal rollerball has been replaced with a ballpoint-like push button action to make it possible to store in a pocket. But here's the twist: the pocket clip retracts when the nib is exposed, so you'll never forget to retract it before putting it in your pocket. All this and you still get the slick feel and smooth style that comes from writing with a rollerball. |

Lamy Scribble
![]() |
Artists, designers and architects alike will love the unique functionality of the Lamy Scribble. Designed by Hannes Wettstein, its curved barrel makes it possible to grip wherever you feel most comfortable and the different lead grades (0.7mm and 3.15mm) make it suitable for general use or for sketching. Comfortable grips and palladium details make the pencil must-have for serious designers. |

Now a modern design icon for form and function, the AL-Star, Vista and Safari ranges, all designed by Wolfgang Fabian, are extensions of the same design. With a sturdy curved clip, ink level window and interchangeable nibs, the ranges are ideal for everyday use and won't let you down. The Al-Star version has a cap and barrel in anodized aluminium and comes in a variety of colours. |

The Lamy Nexx fountain pen has been introduced as the ideal pen for children. The sturdy aluminium barrel and the brightly coloured plastic cap give an interesting and modern feel to the range. The Nexx is extremely easy to write with because of the soft non-slip grip and plenty of nib options, including left-handed. |
