Copying pencils are designed to assist with reproducing handwritten documents. Traditionally they were used to copy important paperwork, certificates or records, and they are often still used for the same reasons today. They are also ideal for re-etching sketches and designs. This is achieved by placing a thin piece of paper over the original, sometimes with a lightbox, and then tracing the original document or image with the copying pencil.
